Abstract The COVID-19 pandemic represents a global threat and crisis situation, and its wide-reaching impact has also affected marital satisfaction. Dysfunction of the marital system puts the survival of the family unit at risk. This research aimed to determine the level of marital satisfaction of Portuguese families during the social lockdown and the association between the variables under study. A descriptive, exploratory study was conducted. During the social lockdown, 276 people of Portuguese nationality and residing in Portugal were recruited using nonprobabilistic convenience sampling. Marital satisfaction in the pandemic phase showed low values that may be associated with the social, economic, and political context experienced by the pandemic situation. Future research must be carried out in order to identify, prevent, and intervene in situations of violence. In addition, future research should explore not only marital satisfaction during the current pandemic but a more systemic assessment of marital relations during crises, expanding the impact of marital satisfaction in family functioning.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

    Get PDF
In recent years, exergames have been used in healthcare, and particularly in rehabilitation, with positive results. Exergames in healthcare have a signifcant potential; however, gaps in some areas remain, including the domain of exergames post-surgery for breast cancer. This study aimed to synthesise the existing studies on exergames following surgery for breast cancer and evaluate their impact through a systematic review. A total of 8 articles published between 2015 and 2022 were selected. The search took place in January 2022 with no time limits. Altogether 209 women participated in these studies. Interventions ranged from 4 to 8 weeks. Most of the interventions took place in the late postoperative period. It was possible to observe their impact on some indicators (range of motion, pain, functionality, depression). Importantly, no negative impact was reported in any of the diferent studies. The present review concluded that exergames can be a promising intervention for rehabilitation in oncology. However, more robust studies are needed that evaluate the efectiveness of using exergames as a complement to conventional rehabilitation and to assess the degree of satisfaction, motivation, and adherence of participants.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Nursing care needs of clients having hip arthroplasty

    Get PDF
Introduction: Strategic leadership in nursing, represents one of the global goals at the current time. Although integrated into university programs, the teaching of administration and management, did not seem to promote the expected results. This finding may be a consequence of the teaching methods, competencies targeted, or students' perceptions of the usefulness and interest of the subject. A new theoretical framework is needed, with the identification of underpinning skills, key contents and teaching methodologies adapted to the current reality. Objectives: Map the models and conceptions of teaching-learning nursing administration and management. Methods: This review will follow the JBI methodology, and will include all types of studies, published in English, French, Spanish, and Portuguese, on the last decade, without any geographical limitations. The databases included MEDLINE, CINAHL, Psychology and Behavioral Sciences Collection by EBSCO, Scopus (Elsevier), Canadian Science Publishing, grey literature (Google Scholar) and Repositório Científico de Acesso Aberto de Portugal (RCAAP). Data will be analysed and extracted by two independent researchers and will be presented in a specific table. Results: Previous bibliographic research allowed the identification of some concepts, theories and pedagogical strategies implemented in the teaching-learning process of the subject. Conclusion: The results will contribute to help instructors to improve their educational approach, adapting the theory of the subject through the use and development of teaching-learning strategies that can support and empower upcoming nurses, face to future challenges in healthcare.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Atitudes dos estudantes de enfermagem em relação à pessoa idosa: Nursing students’ attitudes toward older people

    Get PDF
OBJECTIVE: To identify nursing students’ attitudes toward older people. METHOD: Second-year undergraduate nursing students were invited to complete a questionnaire at the beginning of the geriatric nursing curricular unit. A quantitative study was conducted by administering the validated Portuguese version of Kogan’s attitudes toward old people scale (KOAP). RESULTS: The sample included 39 students who answered the data collection instrument. The mean KOAP score was 135.56, which was slightly above the median value (119). No statistically significant relationships were found between any of the variables: gender, age, experience with older people, and living with older people. CONCLUSIONS: The nursing students’ mean score for attitude toward older people was slightly positive, which could serve as a starting point for the development of an intervention to modify their attitudes with respect to aging.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Introduction Exergames are a fun, engaging, and interactive form of exercise that has been used in rehabilitation. This systematic review aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of exergames compared to usual rehabilitation after anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction. Method We performed a Systematic Review and GRADE evidence synthesis. The PRISMA guidelines for systematic reviews were followed. MEDLINE® (Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System Online), CINAHL® (Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature), SPORTDiscus, SCOPUS, SciELO (Scientific Electronic Library Online), Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, and PEDro (Physiotherapy Evidence Database) were searched from their first record to May 2021. Randomised controlled trials using exergames as an intervention were included. Results Initial literature searches yielded 794 non-duplicated records. After exclusion based on title, abstract, and full text review, five articles were included for analysis. Compared with the control group, the participants in the exergames group showed differences in proprioception and flexion angle difference. Conclusion Although there is no conclusive evidence that favours exergames over traditional rehabilitation, they did not aggravate the effects of rehabilitation. Nonetheless, exergames can be safe and motivating.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

    Get PDF
Background & Aim: The aging of the population poses new challenges, among others, a greater concern with the teaching of geriatrics and gerontology, especially to future health professionals. The simulation game "Aging Nursing Game" ® was used with the objective of evaluating the impact of an aging simulation game on nursing students' attitudes towards the elderly. Methods & Materials: A pre-test and post-test type quasi-experimental study was performed, without control group. The research was developed between February and July 2018. The subjects of this study were second-year undergraduate nursing students. A game was used as an intervention. To measure the effectiveness of the game, a questionnaire was applied before and after the intervention. The data collection instrument consisted of a questionnaire composed of two parts, the first part for sociodemographic characterization, and another consisting of the Portuguese version of the Kogan Scale (KAOP). Results: The sample consisted of 45 undergraduate nursing students from the 2nd year corresponding to 75% of the population. The attitude towards the elderly person improved significantly before and after the intervention. Of the 34 items on the Kogan Scale (KAOP), 21 improved significantly. Conclusion: The simulation game has proven to be effective in teaching students changing attitudes towards the elderly (p <0.05).info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
